These are fictional books written to target the adolescent between the ages of thirteen to twenty one. I maybe asked why am saying this young adult book reviews are fictional it is because most of the authors create imaginary events and people who live in a perfect world. Themes used to write this books are however the challenges faced by young people in the society today like alcoholism, romance, crime, rape, suicide etc.
An example of a fictional book is when the author decides to write about vampires who live among people. The ironical thing is that there are good and bad vampires, that is, the good vampires will not drink human blood but animal blood while the bad ones will forever strive in human blood. The author goes on to say that the good vampire has found love with a human being but nobody in that town can differentiate a human being and a vampire.
Mostly the protagonist is a young adult instead of a child or a full grown adult. When it comes to the young adult books you will notice, that is if you like reading these books, that the author picks themes that affect the youth. Examples of themes used are like drug abuse, sexuality, self esteem, rivalry, love and romance etc.
At home Mary cries and her mother encourages her not to let go of her dream that no matter what her dreams are valid. The words cling into her head and decide that enough is enough, she will do what makes her happy and not others. Second time Mary is on stage she ignores the laughter and starts singing. Her voice captures the audience and everyone is amazed this is how she starts building herself confidence slowly. She gets to meet her first love, popularity and make over. The author then promises the readers a good read and page turning novel that will leave them wanting more.
Then the author tells us how this good boy turns into the most wanted criminal by the police and is feared by many. Suddenly things change when this boy decides that he is tired of crime and turns himself to the police, interestingly he is given a pardon to be released out of jail after serving only one and a half years, I mean this is the kind of criminal that should stay in jail for many years if not forever, that is what many readers would think but the author decides to surprise us by this turn of event.
In the modern society or should i say in the twenty first century you will notice that many novels, especially the young adult books are being published then later on they are acted out as movies. This strategy being used today has made the youths to buy both novels and movies thus increasing the sell and ratings, and the authors who are sometimes script writers are being appreciated by people through awards. These show that the authors are able to connect easily with the youth; they know what the experience and have their interests in mind.
In the nineteen nineties is when the field for young adults literature matured coming on its own, serious and better written. The young adult book has sometime been referred to as the problem novel because of the things authors choose to write such as crime, drug abuse, alcoholism etc. Which are societal and personal problems.
Young literature has also been incorporated in schools making learning not only interesting but also improving the students comprehension. In addition it has helped to nature talented children in writing of such books.
