Getting Feedback Is Crucial To Your Writing Profession

By Raymond Walter Rodriguez

Writers face tough and unique challenges getting started. For one, coming up with original material isn't easy. Especially when you've got that blank page staring you in the face. Another thing that makes it difficult is that you've truly got to be a self started. For most people, it's going to be a long time before you start making money. It's tough to keep up your motivation for such a long period of time.

One of the toughest challenges writers face is getting some kind of objective feedback. This is absolutely essential. No matter what kind of a writer you are, you've got to get feedback. Relying on your friends won't help. Relying on your mom won't help. You've got to measure yourself against some standard if you ever hope to make a good living. Consistent improvement is essential.

In other industries, this can be easy. For example, if you are a plumber, then you know right away if you are any good or not. If you can fix sinks and toilets easily without any worry, then you're pretty good. If, on the other hand, you're always needing to consult with experts, you may not be so good.

As a writer, you simply have to put your stuff out there and see how people react to it. Even if you aren't selling anything yet. Put some of it on a blog, and watch for your traffic. Watch how people interact with your stuff. Over time, you'll start to see which of your pieces are attracting the bulk of the readers. Just focus on writing like this.

Another way to improve your skills as a writer is to write for article directories. You can also get a good idea of how much traffic you're getting, and what percentage of people click on the link in the bottom of your article. The more people that click, the better you'll get.

It's well known that the highest paid writers, aside from world famous novelists whose books are turned into multi-million dollar movies, are copywriters. These are writers who sell. If you are a copywriter, it's fairly easy to see how good you are. And that is to measure what percentage of your readers buy the product you are promoting.

However, in your path to become a top copywriter, should you choose this path, it's easy to blame things other than your skills. Bad traffic, bad products, bad websites, etc. But the truth is that a strong copywriter can make anything sound compelling. Just focus on getting better, and you'll be making some serious cash in no time.
