Reading is often an underrated pursuit. The act of just sitting and getting absorbed in a book can have some children in ecstasy and others falling asleep. Reading is a very important thing for children of all ages to do. It can help boost their intelligence and fire up their imagination. If a child has not done much reading during their early years, it is not too late to get them to start.

Another thing to try is search engines, as they have plenty of free stories around, and the child might have a lot of fun trawling through the various websites, looking at what takes their fancy.

If quality is crucial then try the published authors on specialist websites. They have many titles, and usually novels for teenagers are grouped in one section and divided up according to genre. Here you'll also find charts, so you can choose from the most popular authors. Remember that some novels are self-published, and while they are often super quality, some come with errors.

It's often recommended you stick with one writer once you've found a novel from them you like. This is because reading is a vast investment of time and it's more likely you'll like a writer's other works if you like one. Teenagers might also be more likely to keep reading if they have novels from writers they know.

Science fiction books for teens take up a lot of shelf space in both the offline and online worlds. Try not to get swamped by the choices. Be specific about what is required and search accordingly.
