The way in which business is done has changed much over the past few years and so has the way in which businesses are managed. The old traditional top down approach no longer works. Instead, employees operate as members of small groups that have a specific goal. In these groups, each member has a specific role and the group as a whole accepts responsibility for their work. If there is conflict in the group things can go awry. That is why so many employers encourage employee self empowerment through team building.

The primary purpose of teambuilding exercises is to remove teams from the work environment to a place where they can concentrate on the achievement of certain objectives. In some cases this may be to help teams to resolve conflict. In other cases the members need to get to know each other better outside the work place. The central idea is always to build more motivated teams that will perform better.

A massive industry has sprung up around teambuilding exercises. It is a huge market and event organizers, entertainers, venues, motivational speakers and many others have quickly caught on to the fact that they can make money. Many venues have changed their entire marketing strategies in order to attract corporate teambuilding groups. They even buy special equipment and develop a variety of activities.

Most companies will hire an independent even organizer to make all the arrangements for a teambuilding outing. The organizer should ideally be someone with ample experience in leading teams that needs to achieve similar objectives during the event. He should also take responsibility for organizing the event, putting together a program of activities and arranging for transport. Top organizers demand high fees but they handle all matters related to the entire exercise.

Teambuilding experts cannot organize a useful event if they are not properly briefed on the purpose of the exercise. They need this information in order to book the best venue, speakers and activities that will ensure that the objectives of the exercise are achieved. Top event organizers will take care of all the arrangements. They will book the venue, caterers and other role players necessary to conduct the various activities.

Many corporate teams see their teambuilding exercises as some type of holiday outing. That is why it is vital to make sure that all participants are fully informed about the goals of the exercise and that they commit themselves to their achievement.
