By Henry Herd

Are you the type of person that simply loves to curl up on the couch with a good book? Or do you struggle to fall asleep at night without first reading a few pages of a novel? Reading a good book - no matter how old or young you are - has many benefits (as oppose to other activities such as watching television or playing on the computer).

By simply taking little time from your daily or weekly routine, and settling with a good book, you can enhance your creativity levels. A mental image is created in the mind when you read words on paper. This also opens your mind to new stories and ideas.

As well as enhancing your creativity, reading can help you learn about many aspects in life. Whether non-fictional or fictional, you are bound to learn many different things by the end of your read.

By reading a fair amount of books, you will have plenty of information to start off a conversation with new people. This means there will be no more awkward discussions about the weather! Even if they have not read the same book as you have, there will be numerous things that can be discussed.

Reading books and novels can also inspire you to do new things in your life. Many books provide inspirational stories which can help you set goals in life, or that can simply change your perspective on things.

If you are a huge reading fan, there must be a library of books in your home that have been read over and over again. Visiting the local book store, such as Whitcoulls or Paper Plus, might not do you any good anymore. You should consider looking for a unique read.

Rare books - also referred to as out of print books, antiquarian books, vintage books and simply 'old' books - will give you not only a great read, but the chance to make a hobby out of collecting and selling them. Finding out the rare book value, reading them and then selling them on to another reader can be exciting for readers of any age.

For some, borrowing a book from the local library is a good option, but others like to enjoy the adventure and experience of searching for rare collections, such as first edition rare books. These rare books can either be kept as a collector's item or sold to others.

Locating specific rare books may be a lot easier than you realise... all you have to do is simply search the internet for keywords such as 'rare book shop', 'rare books online' or 'rare book store'. You may be surprised as to how easy it is to locate a certain book that you are after. While some rare book shops offer a physical location for you to go in and find the book yourself, others offer an online systems where you simply have to search for the book title, and wolah! A credit card payment later and you have that rare book that you have been chasing!

You can also sell your own rare books to these rare book shops. Whether it is a single book or a large collection of rare books, the book shop will show interest in purchasing it from you.
